General Admission

Eligibility Requirements

Applications are invited from male monks and lay male students below the age of 28 years who have appeared in the G.C.E. (A.L) Examination or who have appeared in the Oriental Central Examination and who have obtained the following qualifications, for the Bachelor of Arts (Internal) Degree Programme at the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.

How to Recruit:
Admission will be made on the basis of the priority of the Z Score obtained in the G.C.E. (A.L) Examination and the results of the Oriental Central Examination.
Passed in three subjects including a subject in the Buddhist field (Buddhist Civilization/Buddhism) and Pali in the G.C.E. (A.L.) examination of the prescribed year and obtained not less than 30 marks in the General Common Paper.
Or
Passed in three subjects including Sanskrit or History or Sinhala with Pali in the G.C.E. (A.L.) examination of the prescribed year and obtained not less than 30 marks in the General Common Paper.
Or
Passed in the Oriental Central Examination.
Or
If the G.C.E. (A.L.) examination of the prescribed year did not appear for Pali, the G.C.E. (A.L) Pass in three subjects including a Buddhist subject (Buddhist Civilization/Buddhism) and obtain not less than 30 marks in the General Common Paper and meet at least one of the following qualifications in Pali.

I. Pass in Pali in the Ancient Initiation Examination.
II. Pass in Pali in the Final Examination of the Basic Pirivena.
III. Pass in Pali in the G.C.E. (O.L) Examination.
IV. Pass in the Pali Diploma Examination conducted by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
V. Pass in Pali Diploma from a Government approved or any recognized University or Higher Educational Institution.
VI. Pass in the Buddhist Dharmacharya Examination.
Or
Pass in G.C.E. (A.L) in the prescribed year with the Ancient Initiation Examination.
Or
Passed three subjects in the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination in any stream, obtained 30 marks in the General Common Paper and Have fulfilled at least one of the following qualifications.

I. Passed the Pali subject in the Ancient Initiation Examination.
II. Passed the Pali subject in the Final Examination of the Basic Pirivena.
III. Passed the Pali subject in the G.C.E. (O.L.) Examination.
IV. Passed the Pali Diploma Examination conducted by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
V. Passed the Pali Diploma from a Government approved or any recognized University or Higher Educational Institution.
VI. Passed the Buddhist Dharmacharya Examination.
Or
Passed the Vidyodaya and Vidyalankara Final Examination.
Sanskrit Special Admission
In order to encourage students to pursue the Sanskrit course in the University, a limited number of students who have met the relevant entrance qualifications with an aptitude for Sanskrit in the G.C.E. (A.L.) examination will be admitted to the University by making Sanskrit a compulsory subject. Students admitted with Sanskrit as a compulsory subject must study the same subject for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree during their studies. They will not be transferred to other courses during that period.

Applications

N.B. :- It should be noted that students are registered subject to the rules and regulations relating to the admission procedure and the award of degrees to the University, that if a student graduates after obtaining registration as a lay student, he will lose his studentship and all the privileges attached to it, and that if a lay student graduates before the graduation ceremony, the relevant degree will be awarded only in lieu and the degree certificate will be awarded only in the name of lay student.
